smart cards!

Pd. 2 & 8 English 10 made their own smart cards with the following vocabulary words: discreet, discrepancy, indiscriminately, vicariously, & zany. They received the pre-made five words from me yesterday in class. On the front of the smart card they will write down the word, the part of speech and a picture to associate with the meaning. On the back of the card they will write down the definition and two examples using the word in sentences. I check each card, so the students must write using pencil. This takes the majority of the period to complete. Tomorrow, we will go over all of the words, talk about background of the story, and read The Opportunity.

Pd. 4 & 7 Applied Communication just began Unit 2. They learned about characters, direct characterization, indirection characterization and its five parts: appearance, dialogue, private thoughts, actions and effects, types of characters, dramatic monologue and soliloquy. Then they did a graphic organizer to practice the terms. The students chose a character from one of the stories that we read in Unit 1. Then we wrote down three of the character's traits, the evidence from the text, the literary device used and what type of character he or she was. Tomorrow, we will continue with the vocabulary exercise for the story The Opportunity.
