12 Applied Communications:
These students continued exercises in the chapter. They got newspapers and found companies representing an occupational area of their choice. Then with a partner they had a develop a situation in which a customer would need to leave a message for someone at the company, asking for information or service. Then they must create the customer's phone message to that company.
On Thursday, the students wrote newspaper summaries. They found two articles having to do with their careers, then wrote summaries of these articles. Finally, the students wrote opinions on these articles.
10th Grade:
Students in these classes began and finished reading the short story, Two Kinds by Amy Tan. This is the classic story of a mother who wanted her daughter to be a genius in playing piano, but the daughter did not have the same dream. While reading and post-reading, the students should have figured out the following questions:
- who is the protagonist?
- who is the antagonist?
- who are the dynamic characters?
- who are the static characters?
- what seems to be the characters' motivation?
- what are the conflicts?
- what types of conflicts are they?
