Today the seniors talked about technical jargon and its benefits and negatives in the work place. We discussed different examples of technical jargon. We also discussed synonyms and how someone could replace jargon with a synonym when using terms with someone not familiar with the trade. We then discussed a three-part definition. Three-part definitions include a term, group and details. The homework required students to copy 5 sentences in their notebooks, then circle the group and underline the details. This helped students to first be able to identify the different parts of the three-part definitions, and then; we will be expand into higher thinking by creating three-part definitions and using them next week!
Students understood the lesson well and enjoyed talking about terms used in their work place or future work places.
