10th graders began discussing the element of Setting, and we started the story The Pedestrian by Ray Bradbury on page 57 in Elements of Literature: 4th Course. We discussed the ins and out of setting by using stories that we already read. Students copied down the new vocabulary words for the quiz on Friday, October 10th. We then read some background on the story. The sophomores learned that Mr. Bradbury took a walk in 1952 at night and was stopped by the police and questioned. This disturbed him because he was not doing anything wrong. He wondered if this was happening to him now, what would the future be like? He then decided to write this story. The setting (so far!) is evening in November of 2053. The place is a silent city. The mood of the story is ominous or dark. Periods 2 and 8 were asked to try and determine the writer's purpose for homework. Period 4 & 7 will just continue reading together in class tomorrow. We should finish reading the story tomorrow and begin to prepare for the Unit 1 test.
