Last week, the 12th graders in Applied Communication learned what a three-part sentence definition was. Today, they began working with problems that can occur with these definitions. One of the major problems is when the group or details are missing or misunderstood. After discussing how these problems may occur, we then worked on exercise 2-6: Giving Complete Three-Part Sentence Definitions on page 37 of the textbook: Communicating for Success. After completing this together, we focused on nonspecific groups. Students then completed Practice 2-7: Giving Informative Definitions with a partner. After 7 minutes, we discussed this exercise and went over answers. At this point, we were out of time. We will continue working with three-part definitions tomorrow and talking about expanded definitions.
